Are these Brazilian fruits the answer to fighting free radicals?

3 minutes to read

On the weekends, I absolutely love riding my bike down to my local farmer’s market.

The farmers set up their tables, end to end, up and down the streets...

The air always smells of fresh herbs and fresh food. Street performers play as people shop for their groceries. I love taking my time, strolling from vendor to vendor, sampling all the brightly colored fruits being sold.

Now, even though I like to try a little bit of everything, I must confess, I’m always on the lookout for my favorite fruit: pitanga.

Now, if you’ve never seen one, allow me to describe it.

I have a flavor that’s almost like cherry...but it looks like a miniature red pumpkin!

It’s sweet, tart and very delicious — ever since I was introduced to them, I’ve been hooked.

What I didn’t know when I began eating them was just how good for you these strange looking fruits really were.

But, there’s new research out of Sao Paulo, Brazil that shows that a particular Brazilian tree “family” grows some of the most potent, antioxidant-rich fruit on the entire planet.

In fact, they’re even more powerful than popular anti-oxidant rich fruits like strawberries, blueberries, and pomegranates.

These antioxidants fight against the damage that free radicals cause in your body.

Damage like:

• Visible signs of aging

• Several types of diseases, including heart disease and poor gut microbiota

• Cognitive decline, brain fog, and poor memory

You can think of antioxidants as a long-lasting health boost. And if you’re able to find the super-charged fruits from Brazil, they could be considered:

A “Brasilia Boost!”

Now, if you’re looking to get the “Brasilia Boost,” these are the top two fruits to try.

Araçá (arra-sah) was the most powerful fruit according to the study – but it can be hard to find, even in Brazil, because it’s endangered.

But, no need to worry. This fruit is incredibly similar to guava, which are much easier to find. Both are stuffed full of fiber, which is great for your digestion, and antioxidants to protect you from free radical damage.

Pitanga (Surinam Cherry)

Little did I know; my favorite farmer’s market find was one of the world’s most powerful antioxidants! It turns out, Surinam cherry is rich in resveratrol, which recent studies have shown can be a key part of changing your gut’s microbiota.

Now, Surinam cherries do grow in some parts of the U.S. during the spring. But you can also get a big dose of resveratrol from purple grapes… so eat up!

So, the next time you head out to do some grocery shopping, see if you can find any of these “Brasilia boosts” – or their American alternatives – in the aisles of your local store or farmer’s market.

You can also look online for frozen fruits or pulp, and if you’re lucky, you can even check out your local Brazilian market. It won’t be the same as picking fruit from the branch… but it’s the next best thing.

After all, they’re a delicious way to help support your health, optimize your digestion, and keep your mind sharp and focused at any age.

And don’t worry – if you can’t find these Brazilian fruits or their alternatives, Thrive Naturals has you covered. Expert formulas like Super Brain Renew give you the mental clarity and sharpness you need to stay focused, no matter what the day has in store for you!
